CAPLETON

Born in the small, farming village of Islington in St. Mary. Capleton balanced his Rastafarian politics and Spiritual commitment to Jah with his love of music from earliest memory. By the age of twelve, he was a veteran at sneaking into dances. Within six years he moved to kingston, seeking to make his mark as a vocalist. His first break came when he passed an auditionfor the cast of the Toronto cast of Stewart Brown’s musical production, African Star. The show was such a success that soon after returning to Jamaica, he was signed by reggae producer, Phillip “Faddis” Burrell. Despite being banned from radio airplay for it’s suggestive lyrics, Capleton’s first single, “Bumbo Red”, became a dancehall hit and established him as an important voice. Craig Harris-

SIZZLA

Sizzla is one of the top performers of this reggae generation. When his career is over many will look back upon his work as the progression of the classic roots and culture set down by Bob Marley and The Wailers.

The latest two cds by Sizzla are just as his names implies-hot. With strong roots based songs like the one, “Strength and hope”, off the Bobo Anshanti cd, And nice nice dance riddims, it has a different style from his other newly released cd.

“Words of Truth”,is the name of the second cd. It also comes with a live show of Sizzla in the UK. This Cd is definitely a deal. Both are a“must have” for the conscious loving sizzla fan.

Liberate Yourself -KRCD-1999

Good Ways Brickwall Records 1998

Black Woman and Child Brickwall Records 1997

BURNING SPEAR

Winston Rodney is the genius behind Burning Spear. He has been making music since the 60’s. He recorded two albums with Coxsone Dodd in 1969, even though they wouldn’t be recognized for their greatest immediately, that was the beginning of the style called “rockers”.

In 1976 he retreated to the hills of St. Anne and alongside Jack Ruby, Burning spear started to create monster work that was being well received and well recognized as one of the driving forces in reggae.
